Doing Your Bit for Gretna
Where? Gretna
When? 17th April 2003
What's it about? A community litter-pick on green spaces in Gretna town centre. Part of a wider campaign to improve the appearance of Gretna, involving local residents, youth group, community groups, the school and media.
Where's it happening? Central Avenue Park, Crickmeer Park and the shoreline, Gretna
What will volunteers do? Pick up, gather and dispose of litter. Put up posters and distribute information, raising awareness. Contribute to litter-art collage.
What to wear/bring: Bring jackets to keep warm.
What will be provided: Bin bags, gloves, refreshments.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Yes
Any restrictions? No.

Saltire Planting
Where? Isle of Whithorn
When? Saturday 12th April 2003
What's it about? To dig out part of village green area, insert edging stones and then plant out in blue and white bedding plants to create a saltire (Scottish Flag). The area is sited at entrance to village and project is aimed to make village welcoming and more attractive for visitors and residents.
Where's it happening? main Street, Isle of Whithorn
What will volunteers do? Dig out rectangular piece of grass, fix edging stones, plant blue lobelia and white alyssum bedding plants to form a saltire (St Andrew's flag). It is anticipated that one or two adult volunteers will organise three or four local children to undertake the project.
What to wear/bring: Just protective clothing - gardening tools will be provided.
What will be provided: All gardening tools and equipment, plants.

Any restrictions? No pets.
