Church Grounds Improvement Scheme

When? 26 April 2003
What's it about? Improve new churchyard and increase biodiversity by planting mixed wildlife hedgerow.
Where's it happening? St Mary's Church, Hall Lane, Brentwood, Shenfield
What will volunteers do? Plant hedgerows along graveyard boundary.
What to wear/bring: Spades and wear heavy shoes.
What will be provided: Refreshments and some tools.

Car Park Improvements
Where? Shenfield

What's it about? Improve a car park area by planting area with display of Guelder Rose - Dog Wood and other shrubs and plug plants.
Where's it happening? St Mary's Church Car Park, Hall Lane, Brentwood, Shenfield
What will volunteers do? Plant shrubs, lay weed suppressing membrane, cover with wood chips to give good effect.
What to wear/bring: Heavy shoes / small hand fork.
What will be provided: Refreshments and some tools

Hedgeplanting
Where? Collier Row
When? 4th March 2003
What's it about? To plant shrubs/hedges which will provide the farm with a 'green' fence, and help fill in spaces in current hedge.
Where's it happening? Wellgate Community Farm, Collier Row Road, Collier Row
What will volunteers do? Choose location, dig hole and plant new seedlings and shrubs, then be responsible for looking after them.
What to wear/bring: Wellington boots, old clothes, gloves, lunch.
What will be provided: Land, tools, plants, drinks.

Forest Hands - Heathland Project

What's it about? Heathland restoration - to clear an area of secondary woodland creating an open area to allow re-establishment of heather.
Where's it happening? Jack's Jill Car Park, Epping Forest
What will volunteers do? Activities will include tree felling, scrub control and log cutting
What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots and wet weather gear if necessary
What will be provided: Tools, hot drinks and barbeque

Build a Bird Box Day
Where? Loughton
When? Saturday 15th February 2003
What's it about? Volunteers will make bird boxes from kits provided and take them away to put in their own gardens
Where's it happening? Epping Forest Field Studies Centre, High Beach, Loughton
What will volunteers do? They can build a bird box each and will be given information on the best places for it to be positioned to attract the birds. They will take part in either the morning or the afternoon session
