Loch Ore - Hedge Your Bets!
Where? Crosshill
When? Sunday 6th April 2003
What's it about? A footpath circles the loch and leads off into the wood and the various car parks. Under guidance of The fife Ranger Service a stretch of bushes will be converted into a hedge. This is to increase nesting areas for the many birds that use the area as their habitat. This in turn will we hope increase the amount of bugs, beasties etc. which is part of the biodiversity plan. It will also form a natural barrier to keep the public away from an important nesting area. A second working party will cut and burn old gorse bushes, fallen trees and replant native broadleaf species trees.
Where's it happening? Loch Ore, Loch Ore Meadows Country Park, Crosshill
What will volunteers do? Convert stretch of bushes and trees into hedge. Clear gorse.
What to wear/bring: Warm old clothing, waterproofs, packed lunch. (The group has a limited number of fleece jackets and waterproof jackets.)
What will be provided: Tools, work gloves, safety equipment. Tea, coffee, juice, biscuits.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Yes
Any restrictions? Under 16s who are not air cadets must be accompanied by an adult. Wheelchair users please contact organiser in advance.
