Sensory Garden Project
Where? Aboyne

What's it about? Make a start on creating a sensory garden.
Where's it happening? Braeloine Visitor Centre, Glan Tanar Estate, Aboyne
What will volunteers do? Start to clear the area. Build a compost bin. Plant trees. Build bird boxes.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothes and waterproofs and a packed lunch.
What will be provided: Hot drinks, tools.

Campsite Clear Up
Where? Aboyne
When? 30th April 2003
What's it about? Tidy up the campsite area on Glen Tanar Estate, which is used by scouts, D of E groups, Rudolph Steiner groups and many others.
Where's it happening? Campsite Glen, Tanar Estate, Aboyne
What will volunteers do? Tidy up the area. Clear the existing campfire area, replace log seats, restock firewood supply. Build new food storage area.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothes and waterproofs and a packed lunch.
What will be provided: Hot drinks. Tools.

Refurbishment of Community Garden
Where? Insch
When? 15th March - 26th April 2003
What's it about? To clear the badly overgrown and weed infested area, cover with weed suppression material and install half-barrel tubs, planted with bulbs, shrubs, annuals and perennial flowers.
Where's it happening? Crossroads in center of village, Oyne, Insch
What will volunteers do? Clear area of weeds, old plants, shrubs and self-sown tree seedlings. Lay weed suppression matting. Fetch and place half-barrel tubs and quartz rocks. Fetch and spread bark mulch. Plant up tubs with dwarf shrubs, bulbs, perennials and annual flowers.
What to wear/bring: Suitable clothing, boots, gloves. Enthusiasm!
What will be provided: Tools (forks, spades, trowels etc.), trailer for transport of rubbish and fetching tubs, bark and materials. All materials, plants etc.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? No
Any restrictions? Over 5 years old. No pets.

Play Parks Project
Where? Keith
When? 31st March - 13th April 2003
What's it about? Enhance former play area by painting free standing walls with cartoon characters, painting giant 'board games' on concreted area, purchase and plant flower tubs and baskets.
Where's it happening? The Den, Keith
What will volunteers do? Design their own favourite character, draw and then paint on wall, giving their name and date. Assist in painting of board games.
What to wear/bring: Own ideas, old clothing/protective overalls, old footwear, any special dietary needs.
What will be provided: Light refreshments
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Yes
Any restrictions? We hope to attract the younger age group for design, but all ages welcome for painting & supervision.

Mak' It Bonny - Show We Care
Where? Rothes
When? 22nd April 2003
What's it about? Senior pupils and parent volunteers to be involved in a project designed to enhance our tarmac playground and outbuildings through a programme of planting bulbs, growing plants from seed, creating a stroke'n'sniff herb garden and bird-friendly garden area. Older high school pupils to work with our P3/P4 pupils as group leaders.
Where's it happening? Rothes Primary School, Green Street, Rothes
What will volunteers do? Assist, guide, support pupils in planning, redesigning playground area to accommodate tubs, plants, bird-friendly area around the playground that is completely tarmac. We'll be growing plants from seed using cold frames.
What to wear/bring: Protective clothing, own garden hand tools.
What will be provided: Children's protective wear, gardening tools, pots, seedlings, bamboo canes, soil, bird food, posters etc.

Jannie's Garden Developments

What's it about? To enhance our 'Jannie's Garden' growing area by: building a greenhouse from bottles (plastic) recycled from the community so we can develop our plants area (native species, local varieties); creating a compost area for garden waste.

Willow Sculptur Renovations
Where? Fyvie
When? 19th March 2003
What's it about? The introduction of a new willow species to develop willow sculptures which are an integral part of our playground but which have unfortunately succumbed to rust. They provide not only a super natural habitat for wildlife, but also a great natural play area.
Where's it happening? Fyvie School, Main Street, Fyvie
What will volunteers do? Remove dead material from the structures. Replace these with new willow wands which will be woven into the existing live material. These will then be tied into place and watered.
What to wear/bring: Suitable clothing and footwear.
What will be provided: Materials and tools. Refreshments. Guidance.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Yes
Any restrictions? Volunteers must be over 8. No pets allowed.
