What will volunteers do? We need conservation volunteers to assist with the up-keep of the walled garden and the local country park.

Clematis Up the Wall
Where? Kingsbury

What's it about? We had the walls repointed leaving a bare area in the back of the herbaceous border. Clematis growing up trees, posts etc. would provide colour.

Litter Clearance of Stretch of Dollis Brook
Where? London
When? 12th April 2003
What's it about? Clear litter and rubbish from tree-lined footpath along Dollis Brook and surrounding grassed areas. Plant bulbs and erect several bird boxes.
Where's it happening? Dollis Brook, Barnet, London
What will volunteers do? Supplied with heavy duty refuse sacks, litter pickers and gloves, volunteers working in groups will work along the footpath, veering off to clear the surrounding grass and shrub.
What to wear/bring: Gardening gloves if you have them. Strong footwear/boots, long trousers, long sleeve tops.
What will be provided: Drinks/biscuits, adult size leather gloves, litter pickers, refuse sacks, bird boxes.

What's it about? To encourage awareness and knowledge of wildlife within Roe Green Walled Garden - particularly to note and identify birds.

What will volunteers do? Fill and put up feeders, and encourage observation and identification with books and display charts.

Organic Growing and Wildlife Food/Habitat Provision
Where? Hackney
When? Saturday 8th March 2003
What's it about? To start preparing beds for growing organic fruit and vegetables. Each class in the school will have their own beds. Growing will be strictly organic using 'companion' methods of pest control etc. Also to put in place bird boxes/other wildlife habitats.
Where's it happening? Shacklewell Primary School, Shacklewell Row, Hackney
What will volunteers do? Help to prepare the ground and to put up wildlife feeding stations. General weeding and planting of spring plants - especially suitable for attracting wildlife - butterflies, bees etc.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothing - old clothes.
What will be provided: Refreshments - hoping to make it an organic feast. Gloves and tools.

Willow Weaving Workshop

What's it about? To run a days workshop to show trainees & volunteers at Roots and Shoots (a horticulture/carpentry workshop for disadvantaged teenagers in South London) how to weave willow plant supports etc. for use on site and also to sell to the public.

What will volunteers do? They will harvest willow from an island on the River Thames - grade it and bundle it. It will be returned to site where a willow weaver will run a session to show us.

Pond Building in St Mary's Garden

What's it about? To involve local people in building a pond in St Mary's Community Garden. St Mary's is a site used to deliver training in horticulture and therapeutic gardening for disadvantaged groups. It is also a public space open 5 days a week for people to use.

Ant Farm

What's it about? An expert will show us how to construct and maintain an ant farm and observation tank. A trainee at our centre will be responsible for maintaining it, producing information boards and being responsible for talking to visiting school groups about it.

Garden Spring Clean

What's it about? To carry our a range of tasks which the service users of the project are unable to carry out for various reasons, lack of time, difficulty etc to prepare the garden for the summer, and as part of this to restock with plants the pond including our wild garden.
