Where? Astley
When? Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th April 2003
What's it about? We wish to involve villagers in a general clean-up all round the village. The children especially will be encouraged to take part, in the hope that litter will eventually not be a problem. We hope also to involve our local council.
Where's it happening? Gin Pit Village, Astley What will volunteers do? Remove litter in and around the village, sweep the 'backings' and car park, and generally tidy the streets and gardens around the village.
What to wear/bring: Strong refuse bag, broom if possible. Protective clothing according to the weather, and gloves.
What will be provided: Litter picks, refuse bags, refreshments.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Yes
Any restrictions? We would prefer not to have pets unsupervised.

Flower Power!
Where? Wigan
When? 23rd April 2003
What's it about? To hold a woodland wildflower activity day where the local community can try their hand at seed sowing and wildflower planting to improve their local woodland.
Where's it happening? Three Sisters Recreation Area, Three Sisters Rd, Bryn, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan What will volunteers do? Help prepare woodland ground: raking, turning the soil over, clearing weeds. Mix seeds with a 'carrier material', sow seeds around the woodland and plant young wildflowers.
What to wear/bring: Warm, waterproof outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring your own gardening gloves or tools if you wish.
What will be provided: Guidance and advice on sowing and planting; wildflower plants; tools for clearance and raking soil; light refreshments (cold drinks and biscuits).
Is there wheelchair access to the site? No
Any restrictions? Preferably no pets. Children to be accompanied by adults please.

Go Wild in Wythenshawe!

What's it about? To hold a woodland wildflower day where local volunteers can help to sow seeds and plant wildflowers in 'Nan Nook', and urban woodland in the heart of Wythenshawe.
Where's it happening? Nan Nook Wood, Wythenshawe Park, Wythenshawe What will volunteers do? Prepare woodland ground for sowing seeds (raking, turning soil, clearing weeds); mix seeds with a 'carrier material'; sow seeds and plant young wildflowers.
What to wear/bring: Warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear, garden gloves if wished.
What will be provided: Refreshments (cold drinks and biscuits); guidance and advice on sowing and planting; tools for clearance and raking soil.

Maintenance Golden Jubilee Garden

What's it about? Maintaining the Jubilee Garden, enlisting volunteers and purchasing tools
Where's it happening? The Golden Jubilee Garden, corner of Grange Lane, Didsbury What will volunteers do? Prepare section of ground to receive/plant two semi-mature trees. Stake and secure. Make good disturbed ground, replanting any disturbed bulbs or bushes. Tidy up generally.
What to wear/bring: Gardening clothes including gloves and head gear.
What will be provided: Waste bags, trees, stakes, tools.

Weather Wise
Where? Littleborough,
When? 29 March 2003
What's it about? The Junior Helpers, a group of 7-12 year olds will be learning about the weather through fun activities and games. We will be setting up a weather station to monitor the weather conditions at Hollingworth Lake, and looking at issues of global warming. We will be making a big chart to record the weather conditions and display for members of the public. We will be raising awareness of how people can affect the weather and reduce their contribution to global warming.
Where's it happening? Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre, Rakewood Road, Littleborough, What will volunteers do? Older volunteers will help the younger volunteers in setting up the weather station and making an eye-catching chart to record the results of monitoring. The chart will be displayed in the Visitor Centre to inform other visitors what we are doing and raise awareness of the effect people can have on the weather and what we can do to prevent global warming.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothing. waterproof clothing depending on weather conditions. sensible shoes
What will be provided: All equipment and materials.

Environmental Improvements at St Clements Church. Chorlton

What's it about? To improve the church grounds for wildlife, and for the benefit of local people who use the paths through, and the church hall.
Where's it happening? St Clements Church, Chorlton, Manchester What will volunteers do? Dig organic soil improver into the ground. Plant a variety of trees and shrubs to attract birds, butterflies and insects, and make the church grounds more attractive for people and wildlife.
What to wear/bring: Please wear strong sturdy footwear and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Also a waterproof in case it rains.
What will be provided: All the tools, instructions and guidance, members of the community group to work alongside, and lunch.

Woodland Wildflower Activity Day

What's it about? To hold a "wildflowers" Day at "New Era Woods", Collyhurst, where students from St Dunstan's RC Primary School can plant out wild flowers they have grown themselves in their nursery. This will improve the woodland for the benefit of the local community.
Where's it happening? New Era Woods, M. Marcel Guset Paints Limited, Riverside Works,, Manchester What will volunteers do? Volunteers will help to prepare areas of the woodland ground so that they are suitable for seed sowing, sowing wildflowers seeds help to plant young wildflowers.
What to wear/bring: Volunteers need to wear or bring warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
What will be provided: We will provide guidance and advice on sowing and planting some wildflower plants, tools and refreshments.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Yes
Any restrictions? The volunteers for the project will be pupils from St Dunstans and they will be supervised by several leaders. There is wheelchair access but with a certain degree of difficultly (steep slope).
