Friends of Verulamium Park: Flowers for a Roman Wall
Where? St Albans
When? Saturday 26th April 2003
What's it about? Plant autumn flowering cyclamen and foxgloves along the railed boundary of the remains of a Roman wall (2nd century AD) which protected the Roman city of Verulamium which underlays the park. A public footpath runs alongside.
Where's it happening? Verulamium Park, King Harry Lane, St Albans What will volunteers do? Clear moss, leaves, weeds etc. from wall. Plant new plants.
What to wear/bring: Gardening gear, rubber gloves, stiff scrubbing brush/narrow metal wallpaper scraper. Refreshments are available nearby.
What will be provided: Own spades, trowels, plants, compost.

What's it about? We want to set up a community composting site run by homeless/disadvantaged people.
Where's it happening? Bhaktivedeinta Manor, Hillfield Lane, Alderham, Watford What will volunteers do? Install a "web rocket" (large composting machine), set up exhibition boards and plant shrubs and flowers, build a wormery.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothing, boots.
What will be provided: Refreshments.

Plant a Tree for 2003
Where? Hertford
When? 6th February 2003
What's it about? To plant fruit & nut trees on the allotment site for the mutual benefit of plot-holders for years to come.
Where's it happening? Hertford Town Council Allotments, North Road, Hertford What will volunteers do? for the past 2 years a group has formed to bring a half used allotment site into full production. clearing rubbish & plots. Volunteers would prepare planting areas and plant trees.
What to wear/bring: A willing pair of hands, warm waterproof clothing, spade or fork if they have one and a mug.
What will be provided: Garden tools and hot tea.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? Partial
Any restrictions? No. Allotments can be rented by anyone for approx £22 per year (concessions & 1/2 plots available)

Improving Outdoor Provision
Where? St Weonards,
When? 21 March 2003
What's it about? Maintain play equipment in the early years playground, clear area for developing sensory garden where children can explore, find mini beasts, dig plants and sit. The school grounds are used throughout the year by nursery holiday clubs, sports clubs and young farmers.
Where's it happening? St Weonards Primary School, Mount way, St Weonards, What will volunteers do? Repair playhouse and toy shed by painting them. Clear area for sensory garden and seating. Dig vegetable patch.
What to wear/bring: Gardening/work clothes, spades, tools
What will be provided: Refreshments, materials

Any restrictions? People known to the school: mum, dads, grand parents etc.
