Grand Union Canal Rejuvenation Program
Where? Abbots Lanley/Church Langley
When? 19th April 2003
What's it about? With the help of 100 volunteers from the local community, inner London groups and organisations we intend to rejuvenate the Grand Union Canal in 8 sections between Hunton Bridge and Nash Mills. By involving the local community, we will encourage pride in this resource, a better understanding of the waterways and environmental awareness.
Where's it happening? Grand Union Canal, Abbots Lanley/Church Langley What will volunteers do? Rubbish clearance; maintenance of existing plants and foliage; planting/re-planting program; maintenance of canal span.
What to wear/bring: Suitable warm clothing, protective gloves, wet weather clothing, packed lunch.
What will be provided: All necessary equipment, snacks, liquid refreshment - hot/cold.

Cock Alley
Where? St Albans

What's it about? Cock Alley is an ancient footpath which has been sadly neglected. Our aim is to turn it into a beautifully planted area with shrubs, bulbs, ground cover etc.

Spring Clean & Litter Pick
Where? St Albans
When? 2/03/03
What's it about? For the last 5 years we have done a litter pick in and around St Albans. This year we have chosen Verulamium Park in St Albans.
Where's it happening? Verulamium Park, Meet at the Bandstand nr. The Roman City Wall, St Albans What will volunteers do? Volunteers of all abilities will pick up litter in Verulamium Park and sort out the rubbish where possible into recyclable and non-recyclable items.
What to wear/bring: Volunteers should wear old clothes that are allowed to get dirty, walking boots or wellies and raincoats.
What will be provided: Earthworks will provide gloves, litter pickers and refreshments.

Any restrictions? Earthworks is a community project where people of all abilities learn and work together.

Ford Restoration
Where? St Albans
When? 10th April 2003
What's it about? In the year 2001 a group of local residents got together to restore an ancient ford and its adjoining land, which were both completely overgrown. We have laid gravel and planted native plants. Our resent task is to plant spring bulbs in order to create some colour.
Where's it happening? St Michaels Bridge, St Michaels Street, St Albans What will volunteers do? Volunteers will planting and weeding
What to wear/bring: Bring own tools
What will be provided: We will make the tea while someone else provides homemade cake.

Wendover Arm Canal Restoration Weekend
Where? Tring
When? Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th March 2003
What's it about? Management of previously cleared dry canal bed.
Where's it happening? Canal Restoration Site, Little Tring Road, Tring What will volunteers do? Strim and clear excess plant growth in dry canal bed.
What to wear/bring: Packed lunch, tea/coffee; stout gloves and footwear.
What will be provided: Handtools as required. Safety helmets will be provided where required under Health and Safety.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? No
Any restrictions? Our insurance does not cover under 16s. Over 70s are not covered for personal insurance, but covered for third party. Anyone strimming has to have a certificate of competence.
