What's it about? Local school children will plant selected wild flowers in a specific area of the park.

What will volunteers do? The school children will plant wild plants on an already prepared site.
What to wear/bring: Rainwear.
What will be provided: All relevant equipment.

Potty Planting!
Where? Burnley
When? Wednesday 23rd April 2003
What's it about? Recultivate garden area to rear of community centre. Children aged 5-13 years who attend Easter playscheme will tidy garden and plant bulbs and decorate plant pots etc.
Where's it happening? Vanguard Community Centre, Bevington Close, Burnley
What will volunteers do? Assist children, including those with special needs.
What to wear/bring: Clothes for gardening.

What's it about? To prepare the green and grounds for next year's bowling season. To encourage our members to be involved in a scheme to keep the green and surrounds in good order. Our ground includes a beautiful woodland.
Where's it happening? Grange Bowling Club, Church Street, Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington (nr.)
What will volunteers do? Cleaning, gardening, weeding, sweeping, cleaning windows, painting garden benches, repairing, hedge cutting etc. etc.
What to wear/bring: Work clothes and a pair of garden gloves
What will be provided: All tools, equipment, companionship and a nice cup of tea and a biscuit

New Lease of Life for Moor Piece

What's it about? To commemorate the signing of a new 35 year lease for the nature reserve and reward volunteers for their hard work on the site over the past 6 months.

What will volunteers do? Clear route for a new path through the nature reserve.
What to wear/bring: Wellingtons, suitable outdoor clothing for the weather conditions.

Clearing of Conservation Area & Installation of New Bench

What's it about? A small wildlife area needs clearing and there is a need for additional seating in this area, so a new bench will be bought and installed.

What will volunteers do? Clear a small area of ground in the wildlife area and put there a small seating area so the children can sit in the area to observe nature.

Meadow Creation at Tonge Valley

What's it about? To hold a wildflower sowing day where local volunteers can help to sow seed and plant wildflowers in an area of community green space.
Where's it happening? Bolton
What will volunteers do? Volunteers will undertake ground preparation - clearing, raking and turning the soil; then sowing the seed and planting wild flower plugs.
What to wear/bring: Sturdy outdoor footwear, warm waterproof clothing. Gardening gloves may be advantageous.
What will be provided: Refreshments. Guidance and advice on sowing and planting. All requisite tools.

What's it about? Working with young people because they are young seeds of the area and they are wanting to improve the area by planting bulbs and plants

What will volunteers do? Design a cut out saying 'Brunshaw Community' and plant different types of bulbs and plants.

Planting Bonanza

What's it about? To involve the preschool children in bulb planting, feeding and care. They will watch them grow and hopefully become more aware of how things grow.

School Memorial Garden Project

What's it about? We are turning a .6 acre quad into 5 separate memorial gardens in memory of past pupils. The gardens will be organic and aim to produce veg, herbs and attract wildlife including butterflies, birds and bees.
Where's it happening? Cardinal Allen High School, Fleetwood
What will volunteers do? Remove old flags, mark out and make new paths, dig flower borders, build raised beds for disabled gardeners, build seating and fencing, plant out.
What to wear/bring: Boots, old clothes, lunch.

Whittingham Orchard Renovation
Where? Preston (nr.)
When? Sunday 2nd February 2003
What's it about? In view of our successful work last year we have been invited back to carry out further renovation of the old orchard. Possibly the largest apple orchard in Lancashire, it was first planted in Victorian times and replanted in the 1950s. After a decade of neglect, pruning and new planting is now taking place.
Where's it happening? Whittingham Hospital, Whittingham Lane, nr. Goosnargh, Preston (nr.)
What will volunteers do? They will be trained to carry out pruning work on the apple trees using handsaws, secateurs and loppers.
What to wear/bring: Boots or steel-toe capped wellingtons, waterproof clothing, old clothing/hat, lunch.
What will be provided: Training, gloves, hot drinks, all tools. Shelter in van in case of very bad weather.
Is there wheelchair access to the site? No
Any restrictions? Able-bodied adults 18 to 75 years. Pre-booking essential in order to guarantee necessary training and supervision with available tools.

Rustle Down The Wind
Where? Shearbrow
When? 4th January 2003
What's it about? The project was suggested by local children. The success of the herb garden prompted the idea of an area within the local community garden which will be planted with wild grasses that add different noises of rustling to the olfactory part of the community garden. The grasses will be chosen for their ability to create noise in the wind and colour and will enhance the area. The children, who are a diverse group and multi cultural, will be planting and deciding where to place them to create a most pleasing effect to people who have little or no eyesight and will be used as an educational site.
