Sparkling Hanging Baskets Where? Birmingham, West Midlands When? 26th March 2003 What's it about? The project will provide a number of hanging baskets and brackets for streets in which houses open directly onto the pavements. We will provide brackets, baskets, liners, plants and soil and involve local residents in choosing their plants and planting their own baskets. The project will significantly improve the appearance of these streets and compliment the Sparkling Corners project which will provide litter bins and planters on strategic corners in Sparkbrook.

Weather Wise Where? Littleborough, , Greater Manchester When? 29 March 2003 What's it about? The Junior Helpers, a group of 7-12 year olds will be learning about the weather through fun activities and games. We will be setting up a weather station to monitor the weather conditions at Hollingworth Lake, and looking at issues of global warming. We will be making a big chart to record the weather conditions and display for members of the public. We will be raising awareness of how people can affect the weather and reduce their contribution to global warming.
Where's it happening? Hollingworth Lake Visitor Centre, Rakewood Road, Littleborough, What will volunteers do? Older volunteers will help the younger volunteers in setting up the weather station and making an eye-catching chart to record the results of monitoring. The chart will be displayed in the Visitor Centre to inform other visitors what we are doing and raise awareness of the effect people can have on the weather and what we can do to prevent global warming.

There will be discussion/ training in Peasenhall Village hall in the morning, with a visit to one of the hedges we would have planted.
Where's it happening? 3 Wood View, Sibton, Saxmunelham, What will volunteers do? Receive training and information on planting and pruning trees and hedges.
What to wear/bring: suitable clothing, wellies if wet.
What will be provided: We will provide tea/coffee, snacks and possibly lunch

Bloom in Diptford Where? Totnes, Devon When? Saturday 29th March 2003 What's it about? To enhance the peripheral and central environment of our small rural village and to involve all members of the community, especially youth, in taking an active interest in their environment. Prepare and plant up newly created beds in specific locations using bulbs, annuals, perennials and shrubs to a prepared planting plan.
Where's it happening? Diptford Village, Totnes What will volunteers do? Prepare ground and plant bulbs and plants.

Grand Union Canal Rejuvenation Program Where? Abbots Lanley/Church Langley, Hertfordshire When? 30th March 2003 What's it about? With the help of 100 volunteers from the local community, inner London groups and organisations we intend to rejuvenate the Grand Union Canal in 8 sections between Hunton Bridge and Nash Mills. By involving the local community, we will encourage pride in this resource, a better understanding of the waterways and environmental awareness.
Where's it happening? Grand Union Canal, Abbots Lanley/Church Langley What will volunteers do? Rubbish clearance; maintenance of existing plants and foliage; planting/re-planting program; maintenance of canal span.
What to wear/bring: Suitable warm clothing, protective gloves, wet weather clothing, packed lunch.

Tree Nursery for Elmswell Where? Elmswell, Suffolk When? Sunday 30th March 2003 What's it about? Elmswell Community Wood started 2 months ago. Our aim is to establish and maintain a community woodland for the village of Elmswell. The tree nursery will be our first project and will officially launch the organisation.
Where's it happening? Elmswell Memorial Library, Cooks Road, Elmswell What will volunteers do? There will be an appeal in the village newsletter for suitable tree/shrub seedlings. Volunteers will bring their seedlings, register species etc. and help plant them in the new nursery.
What to wear/bring: Suitable outdoor clothing, hand trowel/fork.
What will be provided: We will identify/register any seedlings brought.

Where's it happening? meet at Kingsmeadows car park, Peebles What will volunteers do? Volunteers will work In small groups, allocated to designated areas, and uplift litter of various descriptions, remove debris from river bed, cut back overhanging vegetation etc.
