What's it about? To hold an event at the community hall to encourage/enrol members of the public to volunteer to help with the planting/regeneration of the communities church garden.

What will volunteers do? Make bird boxes, plant flowers in containers, provide information on the project following the event.

Create a Meadow

What's it about? We would like to create a meadow area next to a disabled access path. The area will be fenced using orchard trees and it will create an area offering wheelchair users to the meadow habitat.

Infill Tree Plant
Where? Northampton, Northamptonshire

What's it about? We have planted two hedgerows in the past two years, partly as a service to neighbouring gardens, partly for wild life and partly for visual amenity. Not all of the trees have survived, so we now need to 'infill' the gaps.
Where's it happening? Abington Lodge Green, Taylor Avenue, Northampton
What will volunteers do? After brief training, including health and safety, plant new trees in the gaps of the two hedgerows.
What to wear/bring: Clothing and footwear suitable for the weather and prickles.

Westways Wildflower Meadow
Where? Sheffield, South Yorkshire
When? Tuesday 1st April 2003
What's it about? Sowing a wildflower meadow (approximately 50 square metres) by parents and 30 children, aged five and six, at Westways Primary School. The seed mix is specially blended from native and non-native hardy annuals to produce a sheet of dramatic colour, be long flowering and attract a variety of insects to the garden.
Where's it happening? Westways Primary School, Mona Avenue, Sheffield
What will volunteers do? Three parents members of the Westways Wildlife Garden Group will measure the site into square metres and supervise the children, working in groups of four, in measuring out seed, mixing it with sand, sowing and raking the seed in. Each child will sow at least one square metre of meadow.
What to wear/bring: Wear suitable clothing for gardening
What will be provided: Seed, sand, rakes, metre canes, seed measures, container to mix seed and sand together.

What's it about? Erect a post-and-wire (stock netting and barbed wire) fence along the edge of a meadow so that it can be grazed.

What will volunteers do? Install straining posts and intermediate posts. Attach stock netting to posts and strain taut. Fix barbed wire and strain.
What to wear/bring: Wear appropriate outdoor clothes (bring waterproofs), including stout footwear. Bring packed lunch if staying on for the afternoon.

Keeping Our Local Beach Free From Debris
Where? Wirral, Merseyside

What's it about? We're already cleaning the beach (since April 2002) and have so far filled four skips with rubbish and washed-up debris. We've decided to continue to clean the beach for the Marine Conservation Society.
Where's it happening? Thimstaton Beach on the Dee Estuary, Heswall, Wirral
What will volunteers do? Pick up litter and debris along the length of beach we've adopted, charting everything and weighing the bags for the Marine Conservation Society.
What to wear/bring: Waterproof clothing, wellington boots or walking boots. Strong protective gloves. Clip board. Hot drinks and sandwiches.
What will be provided: Strong plastic bags. Extra picker-ups borrowed from the Wirral Rangers and the use of Landrover and trailer courtesy of the Rangers and Sailing Club. First Aid kit.

Multi-Cultural Celebration

What's it about? A celebration open to all faiths and cultures. The day will incorporate tree planting, a BBQ, singing and dancing. A plaque will be laid on the day to commemorate the tree planting by our refugee and asylum seeker group.

Woodland Wildflower Activity Day

What's it about? To hold a "wildflowers" Day at "New Era Woods", Collyhurst, where students from St Dunstan's RC Primary School can plant out wild flowers they have grown themselves in their nursery. This will improve the woodland for the benefit of the local community.

What will volunteers do? Volunteers will help to prepare areas of the woodland ground so that they are suitable for seed sowing, sowing wildflowers seeds help to plant young wildflowers.
What to wear/bring: Volunteers need to wear or bring warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
What will be provided: We will provide guidance and advice on sowing and planting some wildflower plants, tools and refreshments.

Spring Flowers for Horbury Bridge - the Home of 'Onward Christian Soldiers'

We though it would be nice if each one of our pupils could plant a spring bulb around the sign to give the access to the school a brighter, colourful approach, plus the children could see every year the flowers they had planted.

Sustainable Source of Beansticks from Coppiced Hazel

What's it about? An unused area behind a children's play area on the allotment site is being planted with hazel whips to be managed as coppiced hazel to provide bean sticks. To encourage wildlife, we have included some spindle and purging buckthorn.

What will volunteers do? Complete planting of hazel whips, water in and apply thick woodchip mulch; clear remaining area of site in preparation for planting next winter.

Loch Ore - Hedge Your Bets!
Where? Crosshill, Fife

What's it about? A footpath circles the loch and leads off into the wood and the various car parks. Under guidance of The fife Ranger Service a stretch of bushes will be converted into a hedge. This is to increase nesting areas for the many birds that use the area as their habitat. This in turn will we hope increase the amount of bugs, beasties etc. which is part of the biodiversity plan. It will also form a natural barrier to keep the public away from an important nesting area. A second working party will cut and burn old gorse bushes, fallen trees and replant native broadleaf species trees.

What will volunteers do? Convert stretch of bushes and trees into hedge. Clear gorse.

What will volunteers do? Excavate for the new dam. Construct shuttering & formwork. Cast the concrete for the dam. Remove the shuttering & formwork. Dismantle old dam.
What to wear/bring: Old clothes are essential, wheelbarrows & shovels on the Saturday. Help is also required with answering the questions of passers by & dishing out leaflets which is a much cleaner, but none the less essential role. Any refreshments required will need to be brought along, although facilities are available nearby.

St. Peter's Churchyard - Reclamation & Maintenance Project

What's it about? To clear an area of St. Peter's 6.5 acre churchyard that has become heavily overgrown with brambles in order to make the graves in that part of the churchyard more accessible to bereaved relatives.
Where's it happening? St Peter's Church, Cockett Road, Swansea
What will volunteers do? Maintain all areas of the churchyard and reclaim those parts that are overgrown. Tasks include grass cutting, strimming, weeding, clearing areas overgrown with brambles, hedge thinning and cutting, shredding and filling in holes and indentations in undulating grounds with recycled materials e.g. grass cuttings, shredded tree branches.
What to wear/bring: Bring your own lunch.
