Compost Bin Take-Away Where? Wolverhampton, West Midlands When? Monday 7th April 2003 What's it about? Participants will be able to make a compost bin suitable for receiving garden waste, leaves or grass cuttings which they can take away and site in their own garden. Making use of such bins will reduce the amount of organic waste material going to landfill. Some of the material used in the bin construction will be reclaimed timber from a recently dismantled structure on the site.
Where's it happening? Wildside Activity Centre, Hordern Road, Whitmore Reams, Wolverhampton What will volunteers do? Construct compost bins using hand tools (saw, hammer, drill, screwdriver) or for those that want to, power tools (bench circular saw, cordless drill) from timber and wire netting. Drawings and examples (here is one I made earlier!) will be available for guidance. Copies of a leaflet describing compost bin usage will be provided.

The project will provide a number of hanging baskets and brackets for streets in which houses open directly onto the pavements. Enhancement/Clearing/Revitalising Our Wildlife Area Where? Grimsby, Lincolnshire When? 11th April What's it about? We have a superb area designated to attract wildlife and foliage. It has a good pond which was designated and set up by parents several years ago which at certain times of year is thriving with frogs, toads, newts, insects etc. Unfortunately the last few years has see the area decline due to overgrowth which has smothered much of the pond and covered routes. We wish to replenish, revive and resurrect this wonderful educational resource.

Saltire Planting Where? Isle of Whithorn, Dumfries & Galloway When? Saturday 12th April 2003 What's it about? To dig out part of village green area, insert edging stones and then plant out in blue and white bedding plants to create a saltire (Scottish Flag). The area is sited at entrance to village and project is aimed to make village welcoming and more attractive for visitors and residents.
Where's it happening? main Street, Isle of Whithorn What will volunteers do? Dig out rectangular piece of grass, fix edging stones, plant blue lobelia and white alyssum bedding plants to form a saltire (St Andrew's flag). It is anticipated that one or two adult volunteers will organise three or four local children to undertake the project.
