Sparkling Hanging Baskets Where? Birmingham, West Midlands When? 15th April 2003 What's it about? The project will provide a number of hanging baskets and brackets for streets in which houses open directly onto the pavements. We will provide brackets, baskets, liners, plants and soil and involve local residents in choosing their plants and planting their own baskets. The project will significantly improve the appearance of these streets and compliment the Sparkling Corners project which will provide litter bins and planters on strategic corners in Sparkbrook.

Visit heathland sites to see if they are suitable for butterflies, and to find out which species are actually present. Results will go to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and to Butterfly Conservation.

Digging It! Where? Shrewsbury, Shropshire When? 14th - 19th April 2003 What's it about? To enable a wildlife watch group (children aged 7-12 years) to design, dig and plant up an area of the SWT grounds as an example of good practice in child- and wildlife-friendly gardening on a budget. It will inspire visitors to improve their space for kids and wildlife.
Where's it happening? Shropshire Wildlife Trust, 193 Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury What will volunteers do? Design, plan and build a small garden.
What to wear/bring: Packed lunch and drink, rough scruffy clothes. Good tough footwear an advantage.
What will be provided: All tools necessary, garden designer, 'power' snacks to keep up spirits and morale!

Acomb Wood Regeneration Where? York, North Yorkshire When? Saturday 19th April 2003 What's it about? Restore Acomb Wood by replanting lower level plants/hedges, litter picking, hazel coppicing and establish designated pathways planting wild flowers and involving local youth and community to avoid future vandalism.
Where's it happening? Acomb Wood, Acomb Wood Drive, York What will volunteers do? Litter pick, build habitat piles, plant hedgerow on wood perimeter, plant wild flowers, build bird boxes, assist with hazel coppicing.
What to wear/bring: Wear strong boots/shoes and old clothes. Bring a trowel or spade if you have one. Packed lunch.
What will be provided: All hedgerow plants, foxgloves and other suitable wild flower plugs, bird box kits, bow saws for hazel coppicing, light refreshment.

Walled Garden - Corstophine Hill Where? Edinburgh, Lothian When? 20th April 2003 What's it about? We have restored the overgrown Hillwood Walled Garden into a Woodland Walk for the community. The aim is to allow the less physically fit to be able to appreciate the garden as a microcosm of the vegetation found on the hill and at the same time offer educational opportunities.
Where's it happening? Corstorphine Hill, Clermiston Road, Edinburgh What will volunteers do? Clearing winter debris, weeding, planting, clearing and digging new areas, path maintenance and drainage, building compost bins, clear area for shed, painting and staining benches, litter picks. Have a pleasant day on Corstorphine Hill.
What to wear/bring: Outdoor clothing, packed lunch.
What will be provided: Tools, light refreshments (juices, water, biscuits etc.)

Beach Roamers Where? Gower, South Wales - Central When? 20th April 2003 What's it about? To remove large stones and debris that cause hazard to the public on the beaches as part of our annual Spring clean month during April.
Where's it happening? Horton Beach, Gower What will volunteers do? Rubbish and litter that has collected during the winter months will be bagged and removed ready for when the public use the facilities.
What to wear/bring: Waterproof footwear and warm clothes. Gloves if possible.

Allotment Health Initiative Where? Milngavie, Strathclyde When? 20th March - 10th April 2003 What's it about? We are running four days of conservation activity with a men's group from Stockhill Hospital. The group is run for refugees and asylum seekers suffering from mental health issues.
Where's it happening? Hamilton Hill Allotments, Milngavie What will volunteers do? Volunteers will be led through a series of warm up exercises before commencing on a conservation activity at Hamilton Hill allotments. The work will be centred around planting and designing space for growth. Warm down exercises will be carried out at the end of the session.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothes, sensible footwear.
What will be provided: PPE, tools, leadership, transport.

Whitbread Otter Holt Where? Welshpool, Mid Wales When? 20th April 2003 What's it about? To make an artificial otter holt on the side of a brook used by otters.
Where's it happening? Gelli-Gethin, Llanfair Caereinion, Welshpool What will volunteers do? Construct an artificial otter holt. Look for otter spraints and take them apart to see what the otter has been eating.
