What's it about? To enhance the outdoor area of the Community Centre by providing window boxes.
Where's it happening? Community Centre, Lanchester
What will volunteers do? Build and secure window boxes/planters, select plants and flowers and maintain throughout year.

Operation Butterfly

Riverdale primary School Land Development 2003

What's it about? To improve the appearance of the school grounds. We are in the early stages of planning a nature trail through wooded area, a butterfly garden and a meadow.

Reed Bed Improvements
Where? Wolverhampton, West Midlands

What's it about? To extend and improve the reed bed filters we constructed as part of Action Earth 2001/2002.
Where's it happening? Wildside Activity Centre, Hordern Road, Whitmore Reams, Wolverhampton
What will volunteers do? Make adjustments and improvements to existing reed bed filters, and extend the system. (The filters won the 2001/2002 Action Earth Award for the project that does most to promote sustainability).

Campsite Clear Up
Where? Aboyne, Grampian

What's it about? Tidy up the campsite area on Glen Tanar Estate, which is used by scouts, D of E groups, Rudolph Steiner groups and many others.
Where's it happening? Campsite Glen, Tanar Estate, Aboyne
What will volunteers do? Tidy up the area. Clear the existing campfire area, replace log seats, restock firewood supply. Build new food storage area.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothes and waterproofs and a packed lunch.
What will be provided: Hot drinks. Tools.

Clearing and Tidy Up

What's it about? The enhancement of area around museum, which is overlooked by residential housing, and main road. To encourage wildlife and to get the local community to take a pride in this area.

What will volunteers do? Ground clearing, pruning bushes, create a wildlife habitat. Recycle the land rubbish.

Nethybridge Playgroup Vegetable Garden

What's it about? To purchase tubs, soil, tools and other equipment for playgroup children to grow and care for their vegetables. This will be a fun activity for the children as much as a learning experience, in this year and in the future.

Stock Fencing at Broughton Down
Where? Stockbridge, Hampshire
When? 30th April 2003
What's it about? Erect a length of stock fencing, using existing posts, so that sheep may eventually graze the down.
Where's it happening? Broughton Down, Broughton, Stockbridge
What will volunteers do? Fix stock netting to existing fence posts. Some initial scrub clearance along the fence line may be necessary.
What to wear/bring: Wear appropriate outdoor working clothes, with stout footwear (steel toecaps preferred). Bring waterproofs. Bring packed lunch if staying in afternoon.
What will be provided: Protective equipment, tools, hot/cold drinks, biscuits.

Any restrictions? Under 16s to be accompanied by a responsible adult. No pets, please.
