Stocking the New Pond in the School Grounds Where? Newport, South Wales - East When? Monday 10th February 2003 What's it about? Last term my class redug the school pond which had become very overgrown and kept drying out. We hired a man with a digger but the rest of the work was done by the class. We dug levels, lined with carpet, relined and filled. We now have a lovely large pond but there is virtually nothing in it! My environmentalists' club wish to line the pond with upside down turf and then plant a variety of pond plants in it.

The Woodshed Bird Box Making Where? Newport, Isle of Wight When? Saturday 15th February 2003 What's it about? Get primary school children together making bird boxes for their school wildlife garden
Where's it happening? Carisbrooke Primary School, Newport What will volunteers do? Volunteers will be given bird box wood to cut to spec. This will then be put together following a plan and the boxes will be fixed in suitable positions. Alternatives will be bat and bug boxes.

Woodland Work Party Where? Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk When? 16/02/03 What's it about? Taking our cub scouts (8-10 year old) to a nature reserve where they can take part in some practice reserve management (we will be clearing old and dead wood into piles and burning it, restoring the habitat etc. Also they will learn about the reserve and wildlife there and have a tour of the reserve. This is part of their global conservation and naturalist badges.
Where's it happening? Lackford Lakes, Suffolk Wildlife Reserve, Lackford, Bury St Edmunds What will volunteers do? Help with some practice management on the reserve. This will be with the reserve wardens and adult cub leaders. Work to be done is to collect and cut down dead wood from an area of the reserve and to then burn it.
What to wear/bring: Warm clothing, boots and wellingtons, food and drink for the morning

Westhay Moor N.N.R - Drove Preservation Where? Somerset, Somerset When? 16/02/03 What's it about? Pollarding willows and bundling branches to use to shore up banks of a 10 acre lake to minimise wave erosion of the access drove. Brambles need clearing to get access to willows.
Where's it happening? off B3151 South of Wedmore - Grid Ref St 452 444, Westhay, Somerset What will volunteers do? Clear brambles using slashers, pollard willows using bow saws, tie cut branches into bundles, place bundles in water at lake edge to minimise wave erosion.
