Whitbread Action Earth Scottish LaunchThe annual launch for Whitbread Action Earth Scotland 2003 will take place at 12.30 on Wednesday 29th January at Roley's Community Wood in Currie, Edinburgh. Alasdair Hutton, OBE (Chairman of CSV Scotland) and Robin Harper, MSP (Green), will be joining local students and residents in improving the woodland trail and planting a hedgerow made entirely of native Scottish species. Volunteers from Whitbread, other Action Earth projects and representatives from Scotland's voluntary sector will be working hard alongside. Roley's Community Wood is managed by students from Currie Community High School. In 1989, a group of sixth year pupils first encouraged the restoration of the wood, which was dying from Dutch Elm disease and being used as a dump for local rubbish. Today, its natural habitat has been restored and, in addition to supporting a growing community of plants and animals, it is used as an outdoor classroom to offer lifelong learning and pleasure to the local community. For information on the campaign or the launch, call Purni Morell at Whitbread Action Earth Scotland on 0141 566 2805 or email waescotland@csv.org.uk.
